Finish the Pancake

These are melancholic moments that I took for granted. Finish the pancake! I know the cafe sucks (Stalovaya Kak Doma) but you gotta finish it.

Damn I miss you zaqoyyah haha. Your shrieking vampire-like laughter makes my unusually peaceful sleeps seem unbearable.

    Protect Your Eyes

The sun contains 99.8% of the solar system’s mass, is 4.5 billion
years old, and reaches surface temperatures of nearly 10,000
degrees Fahrenheit-a pretty impressive resume, not to mention it
essentially sustains life here on earth.

But did you know that light from the sun can bleach the retina’s
    photosensitive pigments, causing temporary blindness?

    Murleen Nambiar In Memory

“He always wore a gentle smile , though many mistake it for a shy cry. There was a certain pace that he possessed and his gestures were always pleasant. His eyes had a brilliant spark , just like one of those prince charming characters u read in Cinderella or snow white ; however, the only difference is that he wore a capital SHY name tag on his chest. Whenever he walked pass I would never fail to seize the opportunity to tease him with a friend of mine( one of my all time favourite hobbies). The rest of the days , I would notice him sharing a joke or two with his colleagues. During my hygiene exam early this year, when everyone came out with sour faces, he was one of those brilliant few who passed and even till now i can still recall the expression on his face ; just a simple humble nod of relieve. These are the few little things I know of him.If only I knew then, that the bits of him left today are only going to be yesterdays memories; I would have given him that gentle pet on his head that he deserved on that hygiene exam day or at least a friendly smile to have begun with. All that is left now are only images that we see of him in our shattered mirror. Images that some of us would find hard to forget even 10 years down the road not just due to his untimely demise but for the many reasons that made Murleen Nambiar unforgettable. Its not everyday that we find ‘a someone’ who wouldnt even harm an ant . Though his departure would be the mourning of many , but his memories will always be a silent reminder to many of us . Dear Murleen, I hope that you have finally found your missing puzzle among the heavens and I wish you everlasting eternal peace.
we love you and miss you dearly.”
Family puzzled over student’s mysterious death

SEREMBAN: The family of a 22-year-old medical student who drowned in Ukraine last week is puzzled as to how Murleen Nambiar’s body was found in a small beach town, about 80km from where he studied.

The third-year medical student from Crimea Medical University had earlier gone missing for a week before his body was found near a jetty in the beach town.

According to the victim’s uncle, Ravindran Nair, Murleen’s classmates did not realise he was missing from the university until he failed to show up for classes on May 30.

“Suspecting something amiss, his classmates began looking for him with the help of other friends from the university,” said Ravindran.

“The police were also alerted and on June 5, they found Murleen’s body.

“He was fully clothed, while his handphone and student card were still in his pocket.”

Murleen’s body was flown in from Ukraine on Wednesday and taken to his family home in Taman Bukit Blossom before being cremated at the Jalan Templer crematorium near here yesterday.

The victim’s father, Ramakrishnan Nambiar, said the family was still searching for answers as to how Murleen ended up 80km from the university and why he had left the university in the first place.

“Based on the post-mortem reports, there were no injury marks and the police have ruled out foul-play.

“We don’t believe Murleen took his own life.

“He last spoke to us on May 19 and was excited about coming home for the semester break,” said Ramakrishnan.

During the conversation, Ramakrishnan said his son, who was the youngest of three siblings, sounded his usual self and said he missed the family.

“My son was a quiet person who did not go out much.

“He liked to spend time doing his own things and got along well with everyone.”

He said Murleen’s death was shrouded in mystery and he could not get much information from the Russian police.

Even though he is a stranger that he is to me, it helped me to learn that life is truly short. Appreciate what you have, live life to the fullest and never regret what you had done in the past.

Why? Because you don’t owe anyone for your life. Because this short, temporary life is yours and it’s up to you to make it a life that you will never forget. Because we don’t have time to regret and think about the small stuffs. Because our family is behind us. And most importantly, because we have yet to prove to Him that we deserve to enter His heaven.

May you rest in peace friend.

    Mukhsin Goes To Manhattan

    http://lunatic.byexamples.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/193066050_c21a7c709b.jpg

    The New York Times review:

“The Malaysian filmmaker Yasmin Ahmad tells deeply personal and intensely humanistic stories based largely on her own experiences.

For her fourth film, ‘Mukhsin’, she revisits the loving and liberal family of her previous features, continuing her portrait of one woman’s journey from childhood through adolescence and marriage.

It’s summer vacation, and the 10-year-old Orked (Sharifah Aryana Syed Zainal Rashid), a multilingual tomboy more interested in playing soccer than brides-and-grooms, is thrilled when a new boy arrives in the village. The boy, Mukhsin (Muhammad Syafie bin Naswip), may be only two years older, but his troubled home life and rising hormones give him an emotional complexity that Orked and their growing friendship are ill equipped to manage.

Deceptively simple and threaded with gentle humor, ‘Mukhsin’ paints the turmoil of puppy love on a canvas of family relationships as delightful as it is believable.

With a free-spirited English-speaking mother and a father who helps with housework (“Malays who have forgotten their roots,” grumbles a local busybody), Orked’s family is as likely to arouse envy as it is disapproval. This is exemplified by a pregnant neighbor who is hauling laundry while her philandering husband polishes his motorcycle.

“How nice to be a motorcycle,” she murmurs resignedly, in a moment that perfectly captures the film’s calm acuity and its maker’s empathy for those whose dreams may never come true.

    MUKHSIN

    Opens on Wednesday in Manhattan.”

Congrats Yasmin. You really did it this time. Like i said, Malaysians in New York will have trouble deciding to go watch Carrie have sex, or show support to your baby. :)

P/s: If i’m not mistaken, this is the first Malay movie aka Malaysian movie to enter the US, eh? Damn you should get a Dato’ for that!

    Prostatectomy

A prostatectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of the prostate gland. Abnormalities of the prostate, such as a tumour, or if the gland itself becomes enlarged for any reason, can restrict the normal flow of urine along the urethra.

Transurethral resection of the prostate (also known as TURP, plural TURPs and as a transurethral prostatic resection TUPR) is a urological operation. It is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). As the name indicates, it is performed by visualising the prostate through the urethra and removing tissue by electrocautery or sharp dissection. This is considered the most effective treatment for BPH. This procedure is done with spinal or general anesthetic. A large triple lumen catheter is inserted through the urethra to irrigate and drain the bladder after the surgical procedure is complete. Outcome is considered excellent for 80-90% of BPH patients. Because of bleeding risks associated with the surgery, TURP is not considered safe for many patients with cardiac problems. As with all invasive procedures, the patient should first discuss medications they are taking with their doctor, most especially blood thinners or anticoagulants, such as warfarin (Coumadin), or aspirin. These may need to be discontinued prior to surgery. Postop complications include bleeding (most common), clotting and hyponatremia (due to bladder irrigation). [source-wikipedia]

It’s the same operation that i saw back in Malaysia, except the surgeon is not required to peep so painfully into the small hole - there’s a small camera that is attached at the end of the resectoscope - and all the bored interns and practical students like me get to watch the prostate being cut off mercilessly thru the TV.

By clicking more you’ll see the usual procedure of Prostatectomy using Transurethral Resectoscope. It is considered offensive by some people but this is for educational purpose only :)

    Life Is Short

    Love truly,

    Neurosurgery

Other classes are having holidays, and I thought this class is really stupid to go to. The teachers won’t teach you properly because they know you won’t remember everything about the complex brain, and you yourself know you aren’t gonna use most of the knowledge in this class anyways.

Most patient who suffers from brain pathology will be referred to the specialists so ‘laymen’ doctors won’t treat them.

But it turned out that this class is fun and exciting after all. Who knows CT scan and MRI can give confusing information? I thought the infos that these high tech machine give will be crystal clear.

Check out the hemorrhage - intracranial.

Health Is Important - Tuberculosis Kills

Empat rakyat Malaysia mati setiap hari akibat tibi

( Four Malaysian citizens die every day because of tuberculosis)

    - Kuala Lumpur 9th April - Average of four citizens die every day due to tuberculosis that they suffered.

Director of Respiratory Medical Institute (IPR), Datin Dr. Aziah Ahmad Mahayiddin said, it contributed to more than 1,000 deaths annually from the total of 166,668 new cases of tuberculosis that were identified last year.

“Actually tuberculosis is widespread in this country and it is a contagious dangerous disease that can kill if it is not getting early treatment

But due to lack of knowledge about the disease, sufferer get their treatment at a very late stage and there’s nothing we can do to prevent death”, she said to reporters after attending Tuberculosis Day Celebration Function 2008 at IPR today - Utusan.

I have an uncle who died from tuberculosis last year. Even though he was treated with most potent drugs on the market like Isoniazid and Rifampicin, he was diagnosed too late for the drug to take effect.

    tb-treatment.jpg picture by amirulnazri

    Tuberculosis Treatment

Mycobacterium Tuberculosis has very thick cell wall and the drugs have to be administered early to prevent multiplication of the bacteria. Late diagnose also proves inefficient for treatment as the drugs are toxic to patient’s body and might cause extreme side effects like hepatitis or peripheral neuropathy.

    tb-planofaction.gif picture by amirulnazri
    Plan Of Action

Being a disease of centuries, we should have good preventive measures to handle the widespread of the disease but sadly this is not happening.

When I did practical at local government hospital last year I was surprised to see many tuberculosis patients were not wearing their mask - and local medical officers did their medical examination on them without masks too.

Early diagnose and early treatment can save lives. Know the signs and symptoms before it’s too late.

Wear Mask if you’re suspected TB!!! It’s not so ugly now, is it? ;)

    Tips Of Happiness

So many people ask around - how to be happy? What is the way to be happy? When can I be happy?

Well the way to happiness is not on how, when or what. The answer is within yourself.

I found this on the net - The 12 Aha’s of Happiness - it gives up tips on happiness. One of my favourite:

“Thoughts are things. Are you creating the life you want?”
This ‘aha’ is to remind people that they can manage their thoughts to create the life they want rather than letting their thoughts manage them. Become aware that your thoughts, words and actions affect your world and then become aware that you can learn how to take control of those thoughts. Don’t let the mental chatter run away with you.

How clear can that be? Thoughts are things. - they are things created by you. Your thoughts affect your actions - negative thoughts will affect your well beings too! So the key is to block all negative thoughts about people, things or whatever and just create happy images in your mind! Plan happy things and you’ll be happy!
